Location: Nashville
Internship Position: Cognitive Research Intern
Description: The Vanderbilt Music Cognition Lab, led by Dr. Reyna Gordon and Dr. Miriam Lense, advances the discovery and application of how music is part of who we are and what we do every day. Musicality is fundamentally tied to our health and well-being, with growing research studying the impact of music on our physical, mental, and social well-being. The Vanderbilt Music Cognition Lab focuses on the relationship between music, language, and social-emotional development with the goal of better understanding how musicality relates to our overall health (physical, mental, and social). This will lead to improving the personalization of health care.
This is informed by our premise that…
- Musicality is an essential part of being human.
- Harnessing music’s duality as a universal yet personalized experience can reveal fundamental biological functions and can spur the design and implementation of music-based health interventions
The Cognitive Research Intern will join Vanderbilt Music Cognition Lab’s data collection team for an upcoming project looking at the connections between musicality and health outcomes. This position requires 40 hours of work per week over a 10-week period, most of which will be spent on-site in VUMC clinics interacting with patients and collecting data. Additional projects and activities within the lab will vary and the intern is expected to fully participate in a variety of lab activities over the course of the internship.
